Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for Opportunities?

Do you want to pursue a leadership role? Would you rather lend a helping hand when needed? Lions clubs offer extensive opportunities for the kind of volunteer experience you desire. You have the alternative to work on projects that interest you, get on the leadership track, or engage in both, all while enriching lives.

Looking for Fulfillment?

When was the last time you did something for yourself? Something that made you feel wonderful? Something that made the world around you a better place? Volunteering your time not only helps those in need, but also gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment that comes from deep within. There is nothing like that feeling in the world.

Looking to broaden your Horizons?

If you are looking for an opportunity to help people, broaden your horizons and fulfill your goals, Lions Clubs International has what you are looking for. Lions clubs offer an amazing spectrum of possibilities. With a distinguished legacy that has retained its relevance through the years, Lions Clubs International is the premier service club organization in the world. In addition to meeting needs wherever they exist, Lions clubs provide opportunities for men and women to learn, grow and assume leadership roles.

What do Lions clubs do?

Lions clubs are dedicated to meeting their community’s needs. Worldwide, the association’s major service initiative is serving the blind and visually impaired. Lions are also prominently dedicated to youth programs and helping young people around the globe.

Aren’t Lions clubs only for men?

Not at all! Women have been serving in Lions clubs for years. In fact, Lions Clubs International was one of the first major service clubs to admit women. Each year, the number of women members continues to grow.

What are the time commitments involved with a Lions club?

If you are able to give two hours a month to volunteer to help the less fortunate then that is enough. However, most of our members, once they get involved want to give more time, as it is such a rewarding experience.

How often do you meet?

Our Lions club holds two meetings a month. These meetings help the club plan projects and conduct business. Relevant presentations are also often part of the meeting. One meeting a month, for the convenience of members we have a meal. These are great opportunities to get to know club members better and to network.

Will being a Lion take me away from my family too much?

On the contrary, being a Lion enriches your family life. Perhaps both you and your spouse would be interested in joining the club. We have single men, single women, men who’s wives don’t belong, women whose husband doesn’t belong and couples. By volunteering, you are setting a wonderful, positive example for your children about the value of contributing your time to better your community. In our clubs, children are welcome at special club events and activities, and sharing the volunteer experience first-hand with your child will foster a life-long dedication to helping those in need.

What does it cost to join Lions?

There is a one-time membership fee, plus modest yearly dues.

What is a Lions Club Tail Twister?

The Tail Twister is not someone bent on abusing animals!  The Tail Twister is bent on service to his or her club.  The Lions Club Tail Twister promotes harmony, good fellowship and enthusiasm at club meetings through various jokes and games as well as a smattering of fines on club members.

One of the primary tasks of the Tail Twister is to extract humor and laughter.  This is always done thoughtfully and with respect!  Laughter is universal, but the Tail Twister's antics may never be used to insult nor alienate anyone.  New Lions may be shy and the Tail Twister can be called upon by the club President to introduce them and make them feel that they are valued as members.

The fines are levied at the discretion of the Tail Twister, and he or she determines the reason for the fine, as well as the amount.  In any case, the objective of the fine is not to be punitive, but it is to promote fun and build a team spirit among club members.  Tail Twister fines are placed into the club's general funds for charities.

In short, the Tail Twister operates by the Lions’ credo, “We Serve”.  The Tail Twister serves his or her club by helping to foster that teamwork which motivates that club to accomplish its goal of serving others. .
